Cumberland County Jail Roster
The official local path begins on the Cumberland County incarcerated-person services page, which links users to the BlueHorse jail-management lookup. Cumberland County uses "incarcerated person" in much of its own copy, but the same tool is the practical inmate records search for the Cumberland County Jail / Cumberland County Department of Corrections. The roster is free and public-facing. It is meant for people held in the county jail system, including local pretrial detainees, people serving county sentences, and people whose profile still appears in the county interface.
The county roster is not a single answer for all custody. South Woods State Prison and Bayside State Prison are in Cumberland County, but they are New Jersey Department of Corrections facilities for sentenced state prisoners. FCI Fairton is a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility. ICE custody has its own federal locator. If the Cumberland County jail roster does not return the person, the next step depends on the custody type, not just the county where the person was arrested.
The BlueHorse interface supports both current and past inmate areas. Current inmate search uses first and last name fields. The past inmate tab can search by name, Perm ID, State ID, and date range when public access is enabled. The research did not find a posted roster refresh schedule, so a very recent arrest may not appear at once. For urgent release, transport, or custody questions, the Department of Corrections main phone line remains the fastest official fallback.
Use the Cumberland Inmate Roster
Open the county services page first when possible, because it shows the lookup as a county-provided access channel. The Search button points to BlueHorse. During research, the HTTPS version showed a certificate problem while the HTTP roster interface loaded, so users should treat the county link as the official route and avoid entering private account data into look-alike pages. The public roster search itself did not require a login for current inmate results.
- Start with the Inmates tab and search by last name, first name, or both. Spelling changes, hyphenated names, and aliases can affect results.
- Click the name in the result list. The profile view can load the photo block, demographics, charges, detainers, bonds, court items, and incarceration information.
- Use the Charges tab as a booking snapshot. For filed charges and case progress after an arrest, compare the court case record rather than relying only on the roster.
- Check Detainers and Bonds before assuming someone can be released. A detainer, warrant, court order, ICE or federal hold, or another agency hold can keep a person in custody.
- If the person is not current, try the Past Inmate tab if available. The Books 24hr control is a useful recent booking check when the feature is enabled.
- If no roster result appears, use the fallback chain: call the jail, search NJDOC, search BOP, check ICE, use VINE for notifications, or file an OPRA request for local records.
The BlueHorse current inmate search screen shows the simple first-name and last-name layout used for current Cumberland County jail records.
The sparse search form makes the profile tabs important, because many key facts appear only after a result is opened.
Cumberland Roster Search Fields
BlueHorse separates current custody search from past inmate search. Current search is narrow. Past search has more fields and can help when a person was recently booked and released, when a family member has a local identifier, or when a date range is known. Public access to some past functions can depend on the facility setting, so the roster should not be treated as a guaranteed archive of all old Cumberland County inmate records.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| First Name | Text | Unspecified | Filters current or past results by first name. Enter key can trigger search on the past tab. |
| Last Name | Text | Unspecified | The best starting field for a current Cumberland County jail roster search. |
| Perm ID | Text | Unspecified | Past inmate search field for a permanent local identifier. |
| State ID | Text | Unspecified | Past inmate search field tied to state identification data when known. |
| Start Date | Text or date | Unspecified | Past inmate date-range field. The exact accepted format is not posted in county copy. |
| End Date | Text or date | Unspecified | Pairs with Start Date for past booking searches. |
| Books 24hr | Button | Not applicable | Runs a recent booking function in the BlueHorse past inmate area. |
The BlueHorse past inmate screen adds date and identifier fields that do not appear in the current inmate tab.
Those added fields are useful for released-person checks, but the public interface still depends on what the county allows BlueHorse to expose.
Cumberland Inmate Profile Fields
A Cumberland County inmate profile can contain more than a name and charge line. The interface loads separate sections for demographics, charges, detainers, bonds, court events, incarceration information, and identifiers. Some fields may be hidden, blank, or secured depending on facility settings and login status. Treat a blank tab as a missing public display, not as proof that the underlying record does not exist.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Booking photo | Image block loaded by booking number when a photo is available and public. A generic user image can appear instead. |
| Name and demographics | First name, last name, sex, date of birth, height, weight, race, hair, eye, skin, build, and nationality fields. |
| Booking and jacket numbers | Local identifiers tied to the custody episode and the person's jail history. |
| Charges | Code, description, type, disposition, case number, OTN number, and offense date. |
| Detainers | Description, agency, bond amount, and bond type for holds from courts or other agencies. |
| Bonds | Agency, bond type, bond amount, and bond status when bond data is enabled. |
| Court | Court, date, room, and hearing type when fed into the roster. |
| Incarceration info | Building, pod, cell, bed, book date, release date, farm-out location, and arrest agency. |
Roster terms: A detainer is a hold from another agency or court. Farm-out location means the person may be housed outside the local jail under a shared-service arrangement.
Cumberland Jail vs Prison Search
Cumberland County has an unusual custody map because a county jail, two NJDOC prisons, and a federal prison are all physically within the county. The roster covers county jail custody. It does not search South Woods State Prison, Bayside State Prison, or FCI Fairton just because those institutions sit in Cumberland County. After sentencing to state prison, use the NJDOC offender search. For federal custody, use the BOP inmate locator. For immigration custody, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator.
| Custody Type | Where to Look | Best Clue |
|---|---|---|
| County pretrial or county sentence | Cumberland County BlueHorse roster | Recent arrest, book date, local charges, housing, bond, detainer, or farm-out field. |
| Sentenced state prisoner | New Jersey Department of Corrections locator | SBI number, state prison facility, sentence, offense, and release information. |
| Federal inmate | Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator | BOP register number, federal location, federal release date, and federal custody status. |
| Immigration detainee | ICE Online Detainee Locator | A-number or name, country of birth, and birth date. |
| Notification need | New Jersey VINE | Custody or criminal-case notifications after registration. |
Cumberland Records Request Channels
When the roster does not answer the question, Cumberland County points public-records requests to its OPRA process. The county OPRA page lists Custodian of Records John Carr, Esquire, at the County Administration Building, 164 W. Broad Street, Bridgeton, NJ 08302. Requests can be submitted through NextRequest or by paper form. Paper requests may be mailed, dropped off in person during county business hours, or faxed to 856-453-2168. OPRA questions may be directed to 856-453-2165.
OPRA is not a shortcut around court access rules, sealed records, juvenile limits, medical privacy, security rules, or active investigation limits. It is still the right local channel for jail records that are not displayed on the public roster. Be specific. A request for "all inmate records" is more likely to stall than a request for a booking sheet, arrest charge information, release date, or a named record tied to a date range.
MyCumberland is also relevant as a county app. The Google Play listing says it supports public record or document requests, service requests, photo and document attachments, county website access, news, events, public meetings, and department contact information. The research did not find an app-only inmate roster, warrant search, or mugshot gallery.

Cumberland County Booking Process
A Cumberland County arrest may lead to a complaint-summons, release conditions, or jail booking. If the person is booked, intake creates or reuses a local jacket number and creates a booking number for the custody episode. The jail can record property, take a booking photo, collect demographic and physical descriptors, link state or FBI identification fields, run medical and mental-health screening, classify the person for housing, and update charges, detainers, bonds, and court data when those records become available.
The public roster is a custody record, not the final court record. A jail charge line can differ from the charge filed later by the prosecutor, changed by indictment, downgraded in municipal court, dismissed, diverted, or resolved by plea or trial. For that reason, Cumberland County inmate records should be read with the later court file when the issue is charge status or case outcome. The court path is covered separately in Cumberland County court records after jail arrest.
